One of a group of large department stores along this stretch of Patrick Street and like the adjacent Brown Thomas still in use today. Others like the Burtons store are now used by smaller retailers. Currently undergoing renovations this is an imposing and brightly painted building with good detailing around the windows and an unusual dome.

For a time in the 1930s, the building also included a range of government offices and small businesses as well as Roches Stores.
