Behind the Four Courts, the Chancery Courts was traditionally one of the four courts - hence the name. Previous to the building of the Four Courts was Pill Lane and later Pill Street because it was built on the inlet The Pill where St Mary's Abbey had a small harbour. The name was changed to Chancery Street in the 1890s.
