Dublin's oldest pub, The Brazen Head of which there are mentions as far back as 1613. The present building was built in 1754 and until comparitively recently was entered through an archway on the street. After street widening, a castellated gateway was erected to the courtyards at the front of the pub. Irish revolutionaries used the pub over the years including Robert Emmet who led the attempted revolt of 1803. Also mentioned in Ulysses by Corley incorrectly as "The Brazen Head over in Winetavern Street".
