The interior of the church is quite spartan with all eyes being drawn to the altar at the far end. The modern altar by Edward Delaney does not seen as out of place as in other Irish cathedrals. Must of the original decoration of the chancel apse still survives notably the painted ceiling and murals.

Entering the cathedral is very sudden, there are small modern porches inside the doorways surmounted by a small organ loft. While the organ itself is a fine looking instrument, the treatment of the porches and loft with their aluminium doors and cheap looking timber leaves a lot to be desired. The organ is sited in front of a fine and very large window which takes up much of the gable.
