Architecture of Enniskerry

Enniskerry is one of the prettiest villages in Ireland, lying in a wooded hollow among the hills west of Bray. Nearby are Powerscourt demesne and the Glen of the Dargle. It dates back to 1760. Powerscourt House needed a village for the convenience of its tenants. When Folliott Wingfield was Lord Powerscourt, the forest of Kilgarron was felled, and on its site the present village of Enniskerry was built. The buildings on the right hand side of the street as you come down from Powerscourt, date back to the 1800's. In 1843, Enniskerry was given its most distinctive feature, when the clock tower was built as a Wingfield family memorial.
