The organisers of the competition to build a new monument for O'Connell Street hope their decision not to provide a detailed brief will produce a varied batch of international entries. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, John Stafford, officially launched the contest to find a replacement for Nelson's Pillar on Friday morning. Dublin Corporation is running the competition in conjunction with the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland as part of the overall revival of O'Connell Street.
