Monument to replace Nelson's Pillar

Dublin Corporation is to spend Ł4 million on a public monument for O'Connell Street to replace Nelson's Pillar, demolished after being blown up by militant republicans 32 years ago. An international competition being run by Dublin Corporation and the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland will attempt to find a winning design that will be "a symbol for Dublin for the 21st century."
