Ambitious scheme reduced by quarter

The Irish Independent

Dublin Corporation yesterday gave approval for a scaled-down version of the National Conference Centre and adjoining 22-storey office and apartment blocks.

But the city planners proposed a one-quarter reduction in the size of the development by the Spencer Dock consortium, including a major reduction in the height of the skyscrapers from 88 metres to a maximum of 54.

The officials gave full permission for the first phase of the 10-year project the conference centre and one office block but gave only outline permission for the more controversial downstream construction. This allows objectors a chance to press for further changes to the development.
