4,000 homes, new bridges planned for 'poisoned' docks

The Irish Independent

Ambitious plans for 4,000 new houses and apartments, two new pedestrian bridges across the river Liffey and a ``bus bridge'' are contained in a major new, multi-million pound Dublin docklands property blueprint which includes a highly-contaminated site.

A new `Southside City Quarter' would be created by total regeneration of almost 100 acres of prime city-centre land at the contaminated old Gasworks site and the adjacent area of Grand Canal Docks on the Liffey. Hotels, restaurants, cafes, offices, apartments up to eight storeys high and new boat marina facilities are included in the ambitious new draft area plan for the Grand Canal Docks published yesterday by Dublin Docklands Development Authority.
