Department may try save historic mill house
The Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands is examining whether it has the authority to intervene to save a historic quayside building in Wexford. Developers F.G & P.J. Stafford are due to tear down the building before the end of the week to make way for a hotel and leisure centre, for which they have yet to apply for planning permission. However, if the Department establishes that the structure is inside a protected archaeological zone or rules it is of special importance it can prevent demolition.
