Clonfert cathedral on world's endangered list

The Sunday Business Post

The twelfth century cathedral at Clonfert in Co Galway is to take its place alongside the pyramids of Egypt and the ruins of Pompeii on the millennium list of the World's 100 Most Endangered Monuments, which is to be unveiled in New York on Tuesday.

Details of the list which is released every two years, and in the past has included the Aztec site of Teotihuacan in Mexico and the Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru remain strictly under wraps ahead of its publication in the New York Times next week. However, The Sunday Business Post has learned that St Brendan's Church of Ireland Cathedral at Clonfert is "almost certain" to be the first Irish building ever selected for inclusion among the final 100.
