Spencer Dock in melting pot

The Irish Independent

The proposed £1.5bn Spencer Dock development for the capital's quayside, which includes the long mooted national conference centre, two hotels, 3,000 apartments and offices of 2.4m sq.ft., has attracted intense interest since the official Government go-ahead was given to the developers over a year ago. The scheme, Ireland's largest ever development, on a warehouse and freight yard site at the mouth of the river Liffey, inevitably attracted detractors and opposition, particularly as to the unprecedented height of some buildings in Irish development history. Proposed to measure 6m sq.ft., together with the conference centre, the suggested density is 2.5:1 and the highest structure is one building of 22 storeys surrounded by five others of 17 storeys each.
