Housing densities to rise in bid to end shortage

The Irish Independent

Housing densities are to be increased from today as part of a major Government drive to tackle house prices. Densities have risen from six to eight houses an acre to 20 units an acre at outer suburban greenfield sites. Existing densities of six to eight dwellings an acre in detached or semi-detached houses have now gone up to 20 an acre in a new mix of house types under the new guidelines. While increased densities do not promote taller buildings, high rise can be allowed in certain circumstances, according to new Planning Guidelines on Residential Density published yesterday.
