Kildare Council plans to demolish listed building
The Heritage Council is to carry out a conservation analysis of a listed building in Leixlip, Co Kildare, which Kildare County Council proposes to demolish to make way for a community centre. Newtown House, in the Captain's Hill area, dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. It has been owned by the Kildare council since 1983 and has been used as a library as well as a meeting place for Leixlip town commissioners and an office for the town clerk.
