Tall tales boost the height of Dublin tower

The Sunday Times

Devey Leisure, the owner of the observation chimney in Smithfield, claimed in its launch publicity material that it was 220ft high, making it easily Ireland's highest building. Challenged on Thursday morning on the basis of the figures in their original planning submission, Devey Leisure insisted that this was the height of nonsense. "It's 220ft," said Rory O'Leary, the general manager. "The original chimney was 175ft and the observation tower on top is another 45ft. It is the highest building in Dublin." Within hours, though, this claim was being scaled down.
