Fusano Properties who are developing the western side of Smithfield in Dublin, has demolished the remains of a 300 year-old building, contrary to expert advice. Fusano has hired a firm of archaeologists to carry out a survey of the area and they had recommended further investigation of the site. Local conservationist, James Kelly, said features of number 47 Smithfield appeared to date from the late seventeenth century, and the building could have been classified as a national monument. It was demolished on March 10.
