Engineer who brought flights of fancy to life
The life of one of Ireland's greatest structural engineers, Peter Rice, internationally famous for his work on buildings like the Sydney Opera House and the Pompidou Centre, is to be celebrated with the creation of a Harvard scholarship fund. His life was cut short by a brain tumour in 1992, and he worked with some of the most talented architects of the late 20th century, including I M Pei, Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers.
