Property developers should be encouraged to raise residential densities and opt for imaginative design in their housing schemes, according to the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and the Irish Planning Institute (IPI). The two bodies came together last year to form the Joint Housing Working Group (JHWG), a forum for planners and architects to meet, discuss and work together to educate each other, as well as other sectors of the building industry. The group's stated aim is to raise average suburban densities nationwide, but specifically in Dublin, from eight houses per acre to 16 houses per acre.
