Authentic Irish pubs could soon be a thing of the past, according to An Taisce. Original drinking holes are being replaced with phoneys at such a rate that Dublin could soon have fewer traditional bars than New York or Paris. Just 14 genuine Victorian and 14 Edwardian pubs remain in the city, while department store-style superbars have cropped up on many of its central streets. Some of Dublin's best known pubs have been destroyed or changed beyond recognition, and newer replacements are often inappropriately decked with trinkets from different eras, according to An Taisce.
