On Saturday, September 23, 2000, the Irish Georgian Society will receive the European Prize 2000 for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, awarded by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation F.V.S. of Hamburg. This European Prize was established by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in 1973, with the object of honouring organisations which have made an outstanding contribution towards the conservation of the architectural heritage of Europe. There is also a European gold medal to commemorate the event.
