It's not so long since architecture was a dirty word in Ireland and architects - seemingly in thrall to speculators, developers and the next tawdry office block - were bogeymen destroying the city. Fingal county hall in Swords, Co Dublin, designed by the fledgling architectural practice of Bucholz McEvoy in association with Building Design Partnership in Dublin, shows how far we have come in recent years. The climate surrounding new architecture is changing, thanks to office buildings such as this, which set new standards. Fear is being replaced by ambition.
