Sports Campus Ireland, the republic's planned national sports facility, moved a step nearer reality on Friday when the government unveiled the architectural and environmental framework plan for the 500-acre site on the northwest fringe of Dublin. The head of steam developed by the facility within the past few months has given the taoiseach's pet project a momentum that seems unstoppable. Fingal county council has already been asked to grant planning permission for a 50m pool and aquatic leisure centre, due for completion in time for the Special Olympics World Games in 2003.
