Builders reject blueprint for massive new city suburb

The Irish Independent

A blueprint to ease the housing crisis in a rapidly expanding city will create another Ballymun, the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) claimed yesterday. In its strongest criticism of a development plan to date, the CIF said the new strategy for Kilkenny was unsuitable for a provincial location. Under the plan, a 260-acre area in the west of the city has been earmarked for development. In a bid to accommodate a large majority of the city's expected population growth, up to 5,850 housing units are proposed for the area.
