Architects are being forced go through "a lot more hoops" in the planning process as a result of recent legislation, but the real issue is whether what emerges in the end constitutes quality development, according to Toal O'Muiré, who has just taken over as president of the RIAI. In an interview with The Irish Times, he said last year's consolidated Planning Act would have to be revisited very quickly in a number of areas. And one of the changes he would like to see is "bad architecture" being made a non-compensatable reason for refusing planning permission.
