New planning board office has a broad appeal

The Irish Times

An Bord Pleanála has just moved into a new office block of its own just yards from Dublin's O'Connell Street. Anyone who attended an oral hearing on a planning appeal will remember that awful, stuffy, windowless room in the Irish Life Centre on Lower Abbey Street where An Bord Pleanála used to pack the punters for penitential purposes - or so it seemed. But spare a thought for the appeals board and its staff. For years, they worked in sub-standard accommodation on the third and fourth floors of Block 7, with views of nothing other than more offices. And as the board's staff expanded to deal with a flood of appeals, conditions became even more unbearable.
