Divided opinions on the Abbey staying put

The Irish Independent

Arts Minister Sile de Valera announced yesterday that the Abbey Theatre is to be redeveloped on its present site. The decision prompted mixed reaction from those associated with the national theatre. Ms de Valera said the Cabinet had given approval for the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a more extensive theatre on the existing site. The estimated cost of the project, which is to be pursued through public-private partnership, is in excess of Euro100m.
