Century re-lit by neon exhibit

The Irish Times

Anyone old enough to remember the Donnelly's Sausages sign over the former Regent Hotel in D'Olier Street will know that neon in the city can be captivating - at least until it got lumped together in the public mind with back-lit plastic shop fascias. Thethe current neon exhibition at the National Photographic Archive in Temple Bar, organised by the Twentieth Century Society, focuses on neon signs and their place in visual culture. Familiar images include the Universal Hair and Scalp Clinic's "Why Go Bald?" sign and the wedding bells on McDowell's Happy Ring House.
