Dublin firm breaks out with designs on Milan

The Irish Times

Dublin-based Grafton Architects have scored a significant triumph by winning a design competition for a major university building in Milan. Many Irish architects have worked abroad, mainly when there was nothing much to do here, but remarkably few have won design competitions for buildings in other countries. Against that rather unfortunate backdrop, the success of Grafton Architects in winning the commission for an academic building in Milan is quite exceptional and deserves to be celebrated - all the more so because the northern Italian city is a trend-setter for design, especially in fashion and furniture.
