Dublin-based architects O'Donnell + Tuomey have scooped an unprecedented sixth Architectural Association of Ireland Downes Bronze Medal for the design of The Furniture College, Letterfrack. The Downes medal is understood to be an alternative to the RIAI gold medal - "the pinnacle of esteem for a younger set," as the latest issue of Irish Architect puts it. With their six Downes Medals, the journal comments that O'Donnell + Tuomey "represent the vanguard of a (re)Europeanised Irish architecture" - a singular accolade for the much acclaimed architectural pratice.
