Landmarks: Colourful phoenix risen from corporate ashes

Colour-coded wheelie bins and a 15-cent tariff on plastic bags are just two of the latest steps by Ireland Inc. to improve recycling. But few have noticed the relatively recent innovation of the recycled office block: the skeletons and foundations of tired office blocks are kept, but the buildings are re-clad and reworked to create bright new structures. Perhaps the brightest of these reincarnations is Styne House, at the corner of Hatch Street and Harcourt Street in Dublin 2. The scheme has transformed a 1960s eyesore — the former headquarters of ACC bank — into something more suave.
