The Dublin Millennium Garden on Dame Street will be uprooted by Dublin City Council shortly to make way for a five-storey glass and granite-clad building and paved public area. The green space beside City Hall -- a popular resting place for tourists and office staff on lunch breaks -- was opened by Bertie Ahern in 1987 to celebrate Dublin's millennium the following year. The 1,000 square metre glass-fronted building will be either leased or sold as a single corporate office by Dublin City Council. The total cost of the development will amount to €7.8 million, as costed in July this year.
