Ireland makes its mark at Venice exhibition

The Irish Times

Exhibiting architecture is notoriously difficult and, all too often, meaningful only to other architects. Shows that divorce the exhibit from the true potential power and excitement of architecture - the building itself - can become dry and tedious and in turn do nothing to promote architecture as an art. For this reason and others, it is important that the work that went into creating the Irish pavilion currently showing at the eighth International Architecture Biennale in Venice gets as wide a dissemination as possible - including exhibition in Ireland. The Biennale - opened on Saturday by the Mayor of Venice, Prof Paolo Costa, and the Italian Minister for Culture, Giuliano Urbani - was directed by the English architecture critic, curator and editor Deyan Sudjic.
