A plan by developers Charmside Ltd to build a mixed development on the Nestlé/Rowntree Mackinstosh chocolate factory site has been described as "unacceptable" by a spokeswoman for the Friends of Kilmainham. Last year An Bord Pleanála overturned planning permission granted to Charmside, a division of Treasury Holdings, for an office block and technology park on the site on the grounds it would dwarf the gaol and other historic buildings in the area. The Friends have had time to consider the new proposal and, according to spokeswoman Celia Clifford, it is "still far too imposing for such an historic area".
