Fatima Mansions to be demolished

The Irish Times

The 1950s-built social housing complex, Fatima Mansions in Rialto, Dublin 8, is to undergo a phased demolition and redevelopment. The refurbishment of the flat complex in the early 1990s was largely regarded as a failure. Complete redevelopment is now considered the most practical solution due to its continuing lack of integration with the surrounding area, the mass concrete nature of the 14 blocks in the scheme and the public perception of the area as a walled-in ghetto.
