Aspiring town planners, whose only option was to take a primary degree in architecture or engineering, or attain a second class honours degree in Economics, Geography or social policy, followed by a two-year, post-graduate course in planning at UCD, now have the opportunity to attend the Dublin Institute of Technology. The DIT offers an undergraduate course leading to a B.Sc in Spatial Planning. It is a four-year course, which can also lead to a B.Sc in environmental management.
