Calatrava's bridge preserves legacy of Joyce

The Irish Times

The new bridge linking Usher's Island and Blackhall Place will encourage people to enjoy the river as well as cross it. Nobody, least of all in Dublin, can underestimate the importance of bridges; after all, the city owes its Irish name - Baile Átha Cliath - to the hurdle ford around which it first developed. So the opening of a new bridge is always of "immense importance", as the Lord Mayor, Cllr Dermot Lacey, said on Bloomsday when he officially opened the dramatic James Joyce Bridge between Blackhall Place and Usher's Island.
