Most of us still tend to think of the New World as the land of opportunity. More and more, that's not the way ambitious young American architects see it. Not for them the old adage to "Go west, young man." Starved at home of any realistic chance of building their designs before they are middle-aged, some of the brightest and the best have Old Europe — and the even older Middle East — to thank for giving them their big break.
