Justice Minister Michael McDowell has told Bord Pleanala he backs residents' objections to a €100m development in an upmarket area. A major Bord Pleanala inquiry gets underway today into plans for the RDS, Dublin 4, to build five huge office blocks on the Ballsbridge site at Anglesea and Simmonscourt roads, and lease them to the private sector. The RDS - a public body - says the development is vital for the society. The move would give the RDS a continuous flow of cash from the rented office blocks and generate hundreds of jobs locally in the new offices. The Irish Independent has learned that Minister Michael McDowell has written to Bord Pleanala pledging support for residents' objections, asking it to take them into account in its decision.
