Hotel plan inspires cathedral concerns

The Irish Independent

Cork residents objecting to plans for the redevelopment of a city hotel have claimed it would ruin their view of a landmark cathedral. Property tycoon Owen O'Callaghan announced plans earlier this summer to demolish Jury's Hotel on the Western Road and to develop a new 185-bed hotel, 300 apartments, and underground parking facilities on the site. However, residents in the Sunday's Well area of Cork have lodged a formal objection to the proposed redevelopment on grounds that it could obstruct their view of the landmark structure of St Fin Barre's Cathedral.
