The demolition of Dublin's Victorian fish market, to make way for the €400 million redevelopment of the markets area in the north west inner city, is to begin today. The levelling of the the 19th century market, which ceased operating last April, is one of the first steps in Dublin City Council's regeneration plans for the area close to the Luas line between the Four Courts and Capel Street. The site of the fish market, between Mary's Lane and Chancery Street next door to the Victorian fruit and vegetable market, is to be rebuilt as a commercial and residential complex reaching up to six storeys in height.
