(Honours) in Architecture, has been developed in association with the Southern Region of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and is the first degree of its kind in the south of the country with full international recognition. This is the fourth course offering a degree in architecture in the Republic of Ireland: others are available at DIT; UCD; and the University of Limerick; - there is also a course at Queen's University Belfast. The programme, which will be offered in partnership by CIT and UCC, will be at the forefront of architectural education and it is anticipated will shape and influence all areas of design and the built environment in the 21st century.
This unique programme will complement, and will be supported by, the existing wide and diverse range of programmes offered by the two institutions, across a range of disciplines, including Civil and Structural Engineering, Construction, Architectural Technology, Interior Architecture, Multimedia, Fine Art, Art History, Planning and Sustainable Development and Environmental Science.
Lecturers and Assistant Lecturers are currently being recruited to deliver the new B.Sc. (Honours) Degree in Architecture programme which begins in September 2006.
Dr Brendan Murphy, Director of Cork Institute of Technology, said that we are particularly pleased to be able to deliver this new course to the region. "Until now, anyone who wished to gain a Degree in Architecture, had to study in Dublin or outside the state. Now, we can provide students with an internationally recognised degree qualification in the south of the country. The partnership between CIT and UCC in the delivery of this new programme strengthens Cork's status as the Learning City. The dedication to excellence on behalf of both institutions reflects a real commitment to meeting the needs of industry and society here in the Cork region, in Munster and in Ireland as a whole."
Application forms for Lecturers and Assistant Lecturers can be downloaded on www.cit.ie from the Human Resources Department of CIT, telephone 021 4326 100. Recruitment of students to the new Degree programme will take place later this summer
