John Roberts’ Festival generated warm glow

Waterford News & Star

Church of Ireland Cathedral

The John Roberts Waterford festival took place over the May bank holiday weekend to an audience that hailed from all over the country. The sun shone on the talkers, the walkers, the singers and the musicians and the warm glow spread to all concerned as the festival came to a very successful conclusion on Sunday afternoon. The lectures in WIT took place to a packed hall in WIT where those in attendance were dazzled by the state of the art and sometimes space age designs for cultural spaces designed by the visiting architects. The architects in question, Don Schmitt and Paul Vincent, were obviously delighted to be in Waterford to share the enthusiasm for culture and design that drives those behind the JRW festival. Later that evening in the City Hall, Paddy Bowe gave another fascinating talk, this time on Irish gardens. Bowe’s grandparents hail originally from Ballybricken and Paddy was particularly pleased to be in the city over the weekend. The bus trip to Woodstock Gardens and Arboretum was a huge success with specially arranged tours around the gardens by Kilkenny Conservation Architect Claire Murphy and Woodstock Head Gardener, John Delaney.
