Two years after submitting an application to build a 98-bedroom hotel on Ormond Quay in Dublin 7 as part of a mixed-use development, Pierse Contracting has finally been given the go-ahead by An Bord Pleanala for the project. Pierse Contracting won the tender to develop the site at 31-36 Upper Ormond Quay in 2004 after it came on the market through Dublin City Council, which had originally earmarked it for a family court. The site was expected to sell for about €6 million and the council said the scheme submitted should be ‘‘of exceptional contemporary design and quality’’, befitting its prominent location.
