Wooden it be nice... timber homes for €90,000 'could end housing crisis'

The Irish Independent

It's the dream home for the Ikea generation - and it can be built for just €90,000. An Irish building firm yesterday unveiled an award-winning two-bedroom home which boasts state-of-the-art timber frame design and promises a 40pc cut in energy bills. The firm has been contracted to build 220 of the homes for the British government. Designed by a consortium including Monaghan firm Kingspan Century, the homes can be built in a fraction of the time needed for other methods and has been tagged as a solution to the social housing problem in Ireland. Yesterday, as an Oireachtas delegation went to London to view the houses, there were calls for the Irish Government to abandon what has been dubbed "the appalling record of failure on innovation in housing".
