The Irish Architectural Technology Graduate Network (IATGN) will hold a major national conference from 13.00 to 17.00 in the RDS Dublin on Saturday 11 November 2006. The conference follows the highly successful Architectural Technology conference which took place in DIT in February 2006 and has been arranged to take place alongside Plan Expo 2006 in the RDS.
The primary aim of the conference will be to progress the debate among architectural technologists on the need for engagement with and membership of a professional body representing the needs of architectural technologists in Ireland. The Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) will make detailed presentations on the merits of and routes to membership of each organisation. The conference will also provide an update on latest developments in architectural technology education nationally, including ongoing IATGN discussions with the Law Society of Ireland regarding recognition of emerging honours degrees in architectural technology for the purposes of signing certificates of compliance for building and planning regulations.
The conference is being held on a Saturday to facilitate delegates traveling from outside the Dublin area and to facilitate younger graduates who may find it difficult to attend conference on weekdays.
There is no charge for attending the conference and all architectural technology graduates from all academic institutions are invited to attend. Attendance is open to graduates of other programmes such as construction technology who are working in the area of architectural technology and who wish to engage with a professional body.
All delegates will be required to register from 10.00 – 12.00 at the entrance to Plan Expo, providing an opportunity to visit the exhibition prior to the conference. The conference will run from 13.00 to 17.00, with a variety of speakers setting the context for an open debate involving all delegates on which professional body might best represent the needs of Irish architectural technologists.
