A Dublin City Council report into the future development of Dublin Bay favours a near-complete redevelopment of Dublin Port, with housing for 55,000 people and massive shopping, office and recreational areas. This would involve a full relocation of the port itself, probably to north county Dublin. The report, which is described as the first stage in developing a master plan for the entire bay area, identified three options for the future of the port. One option involved redeveloping about one-fifth of the port’s current land area with housing and offices, after transferring container storage and dry bulk operations to another location.
