Development review for Archbishop’s House

The Sunday Business Post

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has ordered a review of development options for Archbishop’s House and the Mater Dei Institute on Clonliffe Road in Drumcondra. The archdiocese is to draw up a master plan for the future development of the site which would boost the land’s value. It might also seek to have the land rezoned in the next Dublin City Council development plan, due to be published in 2012. The current zoning seeks to ensure that ‘‘existing environment amenities are protected in any future use of these lands’’. Permissible uses include enterprise use, embassy, residential development, science and technology-based industry and buildings for the ‘‘health, safety and welfare of the public’’. Uses open for consideration include a nightclub, shops, offices and car parking. The surrounding area is largely zoned residential.
