2002
This was an unplaced entry in the recent Martin Valley Sculpture Park and Building Competition.
The twin themes of the wandering line of the river and agricultural buildings are united in the sculpture building, a combined workshop, exhibition gallery and residence for the artists in residence.
The builds are taken from contemporary agricultural themes, walls, enclosures, courts, sheds, etc. The boundaries are formed using untreated concrete (tilt-up construction) retaining structures located on the existing car park. Inside these softer timber framed (black clad) elements of the studio and residence are placed.
At the existing car park location the gallery has a commanding view of the park below. Above the gallery a series of upturned fibreglass "boats" are used to light the space.
